Each conference is divided into divisions. Conferences must have an equal number of divisions, up to a maximum of four per conference (eight overall).

If you have turned off default team assignments, this screen allows you to give those divisions names.

The game recognizes the following words for assigning teams to divisions: north, northern, south, southern, east, eastern, west and western. If you use one of those words in a division name, the game will do its best to assign teams to divisions based on that instruction.

Conference assignments are made before division assignments.

All the divisions in the first conference are listed on this screen, left to right, before all of the divisions in the second conference.
