Version 9.1 Update

The 9.1 update was released on September 24, 2024.

Issues Addressed

  • Player files were added for the 2024 season. When starting a new universe, you will be able to select the 2024 set of files with players, quarterbacks, coaches and the 2024 schedule. The 2023 season remains available for selection.
  • Note that the engine itself has not been updated for 2024 play. While changes year-to-year are relatively minor, what is missing is the new kickoff format. There simply isn't enough new data to model it properly.
  • In overtime during the playoffs, the game was not progressing in some instances when trying to process the extra point after a touchdown on the first possession.
  • Added some code to try and prevent corruption of a saved game in the event of an unexpected shutdown of the game with auto-save enabled in a way that Windows would not give a process a chance to exit properly.
  • Added code to try and prevent the simulation from being unable to complete of week of games (and thus skipping those games in multi-week sim mode) in the event injuries for both AI teams involved in the game made it difficult to field a full roster. Since we've been unable to recreate this bug, it's a code-inspection fix and may not actually correct the rare issue (it has been reported less than a handful of times).
  • On the screens that are supposed to count and list active and retired players who went to each college, retired players are not being counted or listed.
  • Added information to the punt process so that individual fair catches could be assigned to individuals statistically after the play.
  • For the in-game simulation, play-calling mode, the screen containing the play-by-play is not cleared until the next play is called.

Data Files and Saved Games

  • Saved games can continue.
  • For those who are working on customization, please remember to back up all your work.
  • This version updates the file league_years.csv by adding a line at the end of the file containing information for the 2024 season. This will overwrite the existing file.
  • This version updates the file team_info.csv by adding lines at the end of the file containing default team information matching the 2024 player file. This file is where team nicknames are changed and is the most common customization people make. The update will overwrite the existing file.
  • This version updates the following text files containing information about the data files: coaches.txt, default_teams.txt, league_years.txt, players.txt, quarterbacks.txt and team_info.txt. This will not affect game play or configuration.
  • This version will add the following files: 2024_coaches.csv, 2024_players.csv, 2024_quarterbacks.csv and 2024_schedule.csv. This will allow you to use the 2024 data files when starting a new universe.
  • Steam updates should not touch other .csv files, but we can't guarantee that.

Steam Update Process

Your installation of Front Office Football Nine will automatically update on its own. If you go into the Steam app's Library and right-click on the game and examine Properties, you can change the priority for Updates. There's a line at the bottom of this screen that tells you when your game was last updated.

You can also view the Credits screen in the League Menu within the game. This screen shows the game's version. This update is version 9.1.
